On 11 August 1962, Andrian Nikolayev became the seventh man in space and the fifth to orbit the Earth on board the spacecraft Vostok 3. While Vostok 3 was in orbit, Vostok 4 carrying cosmonaut Pavel Popovich came within 402 kilometers as the orbits of the two spacecraft crossed. This marked the first dual spaceflight mission.
